Denver ICL

Implantable Collamer Lenses in Denver, Colorado

The Denver ICL surgeons at 20/20 Institute understand how cumbersome glasses and contact lenses can be. Especially in places like Colorado, where breathtaking sunsets and the extraordinary beauty of the Rockies can all become more difficult to enjoy when you have to contend with prescription eyewear, reducing your dependence on glasses and contact lenses can have a profoundly positive impact on every aspect of your life.

ICLs are a revolutionary solution that can transform your vision and significantly reduce—if not eliminate—your reliance on traditional eyewear. But ICLs offer more than improved vision, they can help make it easier to embrace an active and more fulfilling lifestyle. Whether you’re an avid skier, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking to reduce your reliance on glasses and contact lenses, ICLs can enhance your experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the Centennial State.

Don’t let poor vision hold you back from experiencing all that life has to offer. Reach out today to discover how the Denver ICL surgeons at 20/20 Institute can help you see past the constraints of glasses and contact lenses.

To schedule your FREE ICL consultation, call 20/20 Institute at 303-202-0669 today. We maintain offices in the Denver Tech Center, Downtown Denver, and Westminster. We welcome patients from all nearby communities and throughout Colorado.

What Is an Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)?

Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICLs) are an incredible option for improving your vision. Designed to tackle a range of vision problems—including nearsightedness and astigmatism—what sets ICLs apart from procedures like LASIK or PRK is that they do not require any reshaping of corneal tissue.

ICLs are tiny, clear lenses that are surgically placed behind the iris (the colorful part of your eye). Unlike laser vision correction surgery, which ablates corneal tissue to reshape the front surface of the eye, ICLs leave your cornea whole. This means that even if you have a severe nearsightedness prescription—ranging from -3.0 to -20.0—and up to 4 diopters of astigmatism, ICLs may still be able to address your vision needs.

The ICL procedure is a swift outpatient treatment that typically takes only about 20 to 30 minutes. During this time, your vision can be dramatically improved, but ICLs do more than just enhance your sight, they also act as a shield against harmful UV rays, giving you an extra layer of protection for your eyes.

In addition, dry eyes—a common side effect of laser vision correction surgery—are not an issue with ICLs. In fact, ICLs neither cause nor worsen dry eye syndrome. This may make ICLs a better solution for people who have struggled with this issue, particularly in the dry climate of Denver, where dry eye syndrome can be exacerbated.

The EVO ICL™

The Denver ICL surgeons at 20/20 Institute are proud to offer the EVO ICL™, a cutting-edge implantable contact lens meticulously designed by STAAR, a trusted name in the world of ophthalmic innovation. The EVO ICL™ is a true game-changer in the realm of vision enhancement, offering a host of benefits that can transform how you see the world.

The EVO ICL™ is strategically placed behind the iris. This positioning allows it to work harmoniously with your eye’s natural structure, correcting your vision with exceptional precision. But what makes the EVO ICL™ truly extraordinary is its ability to correct a wide range of vision challenges, including high myopia and myopic astigmatism.

Benefits offered by the EVO ICL™ include:

  • Ability to treat higher-order refractive errors
  • Preservation of corneal structure
  • Built-in UV protection
  • Surgically Removable
  • Short, outpatient procedure
  • Fast, typically overnight results

Most patients experience vastly improved vision immediately following ICL placement. As your eyes continue to adjust to the new lens, your vision will continue to improve as well. Most people feel comfortable with their lenses within a few short days, but full vision correction may take up to four weeks to be realized.

Another noteworthy aspect of the EVO ICL™ is its removability. While it’s designed to be a long-lasting solution for vision correction, it’s comforting to know that, unlike LASIK and PRK, the ICL procedure is reversible. However, most patients find that the EVO ICL™ delivers such exceptional visual outcomes that they have no desire to have them removed.

Are ICLs a Good Alternative to Laser Vision Correction Surgery?

ICLs may be an excellent alternative to LASIK, especially for individuals who are not ideal candidates for laser vision correction surgery or who don’t want corneal tissue removed.

ICLs offer a long-lasting vision correction solution that doesn’t rely on removing corneal tissue. Whether you have unique eye characteristics or simply prefer a different approach to improving your vision, ICLs can provide you with the clarity you desire. During your FREE vision correction consultation, our Denver ICL doctors will carefully evaluate the structure of your eyes, listen to your desires, and help you determine which option will provide you with the highest level of freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

The ICL Procedure

The placement of ICLs is a short, simple, outpatient procedure. However, unlike LASIK, it must be performed in a surgical center. During your initial ICL consultation at one of our three Denver area offices, we will provide additional information about where your procedure will take place.

While the placement of ICLs is customized for each patient, in general, the ICL procedure will include:

Pre-Op Assessment

Before scheduling your ICL procedure, our doctors will perform a comprehensive preoperative eye exam. This exam assesses your unique eye characteristics and determines your suitability for ICLs. You’ll also receive detailed information about the procedure and what to expect.

Pre-Procedure Preparation

On the day of the procedure, one of our Denver ICL surgeons will start by administering special eye drops. These drops serve to dilate your pupils and numb your eyes, ensuring a painless and comfortable experience.

Creating a Small Opening

To prepare for the implantation of the EVO ICL™ lens, the surgeon will create a small opening at the base of your cornea. This step is painless thanks to the numbing medication and the great care taken by our surgeons to preserve comfort.

Lens Insertion and Positioning

With the small incision ready, your ICL lens is folded and gently inserted through the opening. Once inserted, it is carefully positioned to ensure optimal results and clarity. For many patients, the ICL procedure leads to an immediate improvement in vision.

Post-Procedure Care

Recovery from the ICL procedure is typically straightforward and comfortable. While you may notice enhanced clarity right away, it’s essential to follow our instructions for post-operative care. This typically includes using prescribed eye drops to aid in the healing process and avoiding certain things like strenuous activities and rubbing your eyes for a brief period.

Your vision will continue to improve in the days and weeks following ICL placement. At 20/20 Institute we are committed to ensuring your well-being throughout the recovery process. During your follow-up visits and whenever you need us, our team is available to address any questions or concerns you may have while you recover.

Am I a Good ICL Candidate?

If you are looking for a long-lasting way to reduce your reliance on contact lenses and glasses, you might be a good ICL candidate. If you have thin corneas, experience discomfort from dry eyes, or are dealing with significant nearsightedness—with or without astigmatism—you might be an ideal ICL candidate. The best way to find out if you are a candidate for ICL surgery is through a cost- and obligation-free vision evaluation at any of our three Denver area offices.

It is important to note that ICLs are only FDA-approved for adults over the age of 21 and that they have not been approved to treat hyperopia.

At 20/20 Institute, our team of experts is dedicated to tailoring vision solutions to meet your unique needs. We understand that every individual’s vision is different. We offer a comprehensive assessment to determine if ICLs are the ideal fit for your specific vision requirements. Discover whether ICLs can help liberate you from the limitations of glasses and contact lenses by providing you with the clear vision you’ve been searching for.

Local, Independent, and Doctor-Owned

Currently, the corporate LASIK Chains in Denver do NOT offer ICL vision correction procedures. Unfortunately, at corporate LASIK Chains, this can result in patients having to choose the vision correction procedure that may not be the best option for them. At our doctor-owned, local, independent vision correction practice, we do things differently.  Our doctors will always recommend the vison correction solution that they believe is in that patients’ best interest, even if it’s not a procedure offered at 20/20 Institute.
