LASIK Technology
WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q Treatment Laser
The WaveLight Allegretto Laser is unique from other laser technologies because it is completely engineered upon Custom LASIK technology. While older generation lasers have been modified over time to be able to perform Custom LASIK, the WaveLight Allegretto was specifically engineered for Custom LASIK. In fact, the very first Custom, or Wavefront-guided, treatment performed in the world was performed on a WaveLight laser.
SpeedThe WaveLight AllegrettoWave Eye Q is the fastest FDA-Approved laser for LASIK eye surgery. It operates at a speed of 400 pulses per second, treating one unit of prescription correction in two seconds. This tremendous speed is 4 times faster than any other FDA-Approved LASIK laser, meaning that the treatment time for your prescription will be 4 times shorter than with any other laser. 20/20 Institute LASIK with the WaveLight Allegretto Eye-Q means a quicker, more comfortable LASIK procedure with less inflammation, less risk, and a faster visual recovery.
Safety & AccuracyTo ensure treatment safety and accuracy, the Eye-Q utilizes an unmatched eye tracker that follows even the slightest of eye movements. This closed-loop tracking system ensures accurate placement of each laser pulse by measuring the eye's position 400 times per second (Hz) prior to releasing each individual laser pulse. If the eye moves slightly, the laser responds automatically by adjusting the placement of the treatment to accommodate for that slight movement. If the eye moves too much, the laser will pause until the eye returns to the proper position.
Currently the laser is FDA-approved to treat myopia without astigmatism to -6D and with astigmatism up to -12D. It also is approved to treat farsightedness, with or without astigmatism.
During clinical trials using the WaveLight Allegretto, 60% of participants saw 20/16 after their procedure and 87% were 20/20 or better at one year. 98% of all participants were 20/40 or better (20/40 vision is required to pass a driver's license test). Keep in mind that results will vary for each individual patient.
Optical Purity & Night VisionThe natural shape of the cornea is intended to be very much like a contact lens. This shape focuses light rays as they enter the eye so that they meet in one sharp focal point to produce clear vision in all levels of light. Because LASIK vision correction is done by reshaping the cornea, it is important to perform this reshaping with the natural shape of the cornea in mind.
Older Generation TechnologyIn the early years of LASIK eye surgery, night vision problems were a very common complaint from patients who had LASIK. The reshaping of the cornea performed by early LASIK technology quite often resulted in an unnatural corneal shape, creating visual distortions. These created distortions are commonly called glare and haloes, because they are usually much worse at night or only noticeable at night when the pupil is larger to allow more light in the eye.
Custom LASIK technology, the most significant advancement in LASIK technology since LASIK was first FDA-Approved, was designed specifically to improve the results of LASIK eye surgery by minimizing the creation of night vision halo and glare.
Next-Generation WaveLight TechnologyAs the first vision correction laser system engineered following the development of Custom LASIK technology, the WaveLight Allegretto laser is designed specifically to preserve the purity of your optical system and to maximize visual results in all levels of light - especially at night. With the WaveLight Allegretto, 20/20 Institute LASIK surgeons are able to customize a treatment to correct your prescription with the goal of preserving the natural shape of your cornea.
The result is more accurate visual results and better night vision. In the WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q clinical trials conducted by the FDA, many patients reported that their night vision had actually improved after LASIK surgery than compared to their glasses or contacts.
