Custom LASIK
Custom, or Wavefront LASIK, is the most accurate and specialized LASIK treatment available in the world. In contrast to traditional or conventional LASIK technology, Custom LASIK delivers more precise visual results and better night vision. The advantages of Custom LASIK have been proven. Therefore, 20/20 Institute doctors are not comfortable recommending the older LASIK technology as a treatment option for your vision. Every LASIK procedure at 20/20 Institute is performed using Custom LASIK technology.
WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q Treatment Laser:
Next-Generation Technology
The WaveLight Allegretto is unique from other laser technologies because it is completely engineered upon Custom LASIK Technology. While older generation lasers have been modified over time to be able to perform Custom LASIK, the WaveLight Allegretto was specifically engineered for Custom LASIK. In fact, the very first Custom, or Wavefront-guided, treatment performed in the world was performed on a WaveLight laser.
Speed
The WaveLight Allegretto Eye Q is the fastest FDA-Approved LASIK laser. It operates at a speed of 400 pulses per second, treating one unit of prescription correction in two seconds. This tremendous speed is 4 times faster than any other FDA-Approved LASIK laser, meaning that the treatment time for your prescription will be 4 times shorter than with any other laser. 20/20 Institute LASIK with the WaveLight Allegretto Eye-Q means a quicker, more comfortable LASIK procedure with less inflammation, less risk, and a faster visual recovery.
Safety & Accuracy
Eye Tracker - To ensure treatment safety and accuracy, the Eye-Q utilizes an unmatched eye tracker that follows even the slightest of eye movements. This closed-loop tracking system ensures accurate placement of each laser pulse by measuring the eye's position 400 times per second (Hz) prior to releasing each individual laser pulse. If the eye moves slightly, the laser responds automatically by adjusting the placement of the treatment to accommodate for that slight movement. If the eye moves too much, the laser will pause until the eye returns to the proper position.
Optical Purity & Night Vision
The natural shape of the cornea is intended to be very much like a contact lens. This shape focuses light rays as they enter the eye so that they meet in one sharp focal point to produce clear vision in all levels of light. Because LASIK is done by reshaping the cornea, it is important to perform this reshaping with the natural shape of the cornea in mind.
In the early years of LASIK, night vision problems were a very common complaint from patients who had LASIK. The reshaping of the cornea performed by this early LASIK technology quite often resulted in an unnatural corneal shape, creating visual distortions. These created distortions are commonly called glare and haloes, because they are usually much worse at night or only noticeable at night when the pupil is larger to allow more light in the eye.
Older Generation Technology
Treatments that are performed on other lasers are able to change the shape of the cornea to improve vision without glasses and contacts. However, due to fundamental limitations in technology, the treatment commonly results in an unnaturally shaped cornea. The most significant consequence of this unnatural curvature is decreased night vision due to glare and haloes.
Custom LASIK technology, the most significant advancement in LASIK technology since LASIK was first FDA Approved, was designed specifically to improve the results of LASIK by minimizing the creation of night vision halo and glare.
Next-Generation WaveLight Technology
As the first vision correction laser system engineered following the development of Custom LASIK technology, the WaveLight Allegretto laser is designed specifically to preserve the purity of your optical system and to maximize visual results in all levels of light – especially at night. With the WaveLight Allegretto, 20/20 Institute doctors are able to customize a treatment to correct your prescription with the goal of preserving the natural shape of your cornea.

The result is more accurate visual results and better night vision. In the WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q clinical trials conducted by the FDA, many patients reported that their night vision had actually improved after LASIK than compared to their glasses or contacts.
Bladeless LASIK
The latest advancement in LASIK is bladeless LASIK, which provides for you increased safety and accuracy in an all-laser LASIK procedure. Until the development of Bladeless Technology, the first step of the LASIK procedure required the surgeon to use a mechanical device called a Microkeratome, which utilizes a blade to create the flap. Now, with Bladeless LASIK, 20/20 Institute LASIK surgeons are able to use a laser to create the flap. This advancement in technology increases the precision in the creation of the flap, ensuring the utmost in safety and visual recovery for the guest.
Pentacam
Accuracy - 20/20 Institute LASIK doctors utilize the Pentacam to precisely analyze the curvature, structure, and thickness of your corneas. The Pentacam captures 50 images and up to 25,000 individual data points of information to create detailed maps of the corneas. This extremely accurate information is used by our doctors to determine your candidacy for LASIK, and it is used to customize your LASIK treatment to ensure your most accurate visual result. The Pentacam performs this detailed analysis of your corneas in less than two seconds per eye, ensuring accuracy and your comfort.
