Britt A. Buckley, M.D.
Eye Surgeon, Dr. Britt A. Buckley, a co-founder of 20/20 Institute, has performed more than 30,000 laser vision correction procedures in the past 13 years. Dr. Buckley ranks among the top five percent of all LASIK surgeons nationwide.
Having had refractive surgery performed, he is also vision correction patient himself. He participated in the Summit Technology Excimer Laser Visionary Program in London and Berlin from 1992 through 1993, studying both the LASIK and PRK refractive surgical procedures.
As a teaching physician, Dr. Buckley has trained approximately 100 ophthalmologists in the latest refractive surgical techniques using the most modern state-of-the-art technology. He has authored numerous articles and presented several professional papers at doctor meetings and medical gatherings throughout the nation.
Dr. Buckley graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1979. Following his Flexible Medicine Internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., he completed a three-year ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.
Dr. Buckley moved to southern Colorado in 1983 to join the Colorado Springs Eye Clinic. In 1985, Dr. Buckley established his solo ophthalmology practice and three years later became CEO, President and Surgical Director of Buckley Vision Institute where he currently treats patients.
Matthew K. Chang, M.D.
Originally from Chicago, Ill., Dr. Chang completed his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University in 1992. He went on to become one of the first physicians to complete a joint degree in medicine and business administration at the renowned Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois. Dr. Chang completed his ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Michigan, where he was elected chief resident in his final year.
After completion of his residency, Dr. Chang continued his education at the University of Arizona. His fellowship training focused on cornea, refractive surgery, and external disease. Eye doctor, Dr. Chang has conducted numerous research projects involving refractive surgery, cataract surgery, and microbiology involving the eye. He is actively involved in several current research studies and continues to be an active presenter at major ophthalmologic conferences throughout the country.
Dr. Chang worked in a large multi-specialty group in southern Wisconsin for two years, before moving to Colorado in 2005. Dr. Chang specializes in LASIK and LASEK surgeries, corneal transplants, cataracts, glaucoma, and other anterior segment disorders. He has performed thousands of refractive procedures and is certified in nearly every new ophthalmic and refractive procedure and technologies.
Jim E. Montgomery, M.D.
Ophthalmologist, Dr. Jim E. Montgomery is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who has been practicing refractive surgery in Denver since 2001. While being involved in a local area center as the Chief Refractive Surgeon, he received the honor of first in the category of "Best LASIK/Laser Center/LASIK Surgeon" in the Boulder Camera's Best of Boulder County for three consecutive years. Dr. Montgomery has been with the 20/20 Institute in Denver since 2005. He is proud to have an association with the 20/20 Institute because of a common commitment to the quality of patient care, state-of-the-art technology, and the total patient experience.
Dr. Montgomery is currently the primary surgeon at both the Denver and Portland 20/20 Institute locations. He has performed over 14,000 laser vision correction procedures. Dr. Montgomery is credentialed at the highest level on multiple laser platforms. He performs other refractive procedures including ReSTOR, ReZoom, Crystalens, and Visian ICL lens implants. Dr. Montgomery understands the depth of the personal choice in having laser vision correction because he has had the procedure as well.
Dr. Montgomery graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1992. Following an internship in Internal Medicine at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Zale Hospital, and Parkland Hospital in 1996. Dr. Montgomery became Board Certified in 1998 and has recently completed his ten year recertification with an emphasis in refractive surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and maintains membership in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Gary Bircham, O.D.
Optometrist Dr. Gary Bircham is a lifelong resident of Colorado and has been practicing optometry for 20 years. He has been participating in the surgical co-management of LASIK and PRK since their FDA approval in 1995. He is an experienced optometrist with extensive knowledge in general eye care, treatment of eye disease, and refractive surgical procedures. He has been licensed by the Colorado State Board of Optometric Examiners since 1989.
Dr. Bircham received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science from Colorado State University in 1985. He then received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics in 1987 and a Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989. While completing his optometric education, he served optometric externships at Letterman Army Hospital, Mare Island Naval Facility, and Travis Air Force Base.
Dr. Bircham is a member of The American Optometric Association, The Colorado Optometric Association, The Southern Colorado Optometric Society, and The Optometric Council of Refractive Technology. He is a member of several distinguished honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Beta Sigma Kappa, and he received the J. Howard Bailey Award for the best O.D. thesis in administrative science in 1989.
Dr. Bircham had LASIK in 1999 after 30 years of being dependent on glasses and contact lenses since early childhood. Having experienced the gift of LASIK himself gives him great insight at what an amazing life changing event LASIK is in our guests’ lives.
Mark Danzo, O.D.
Optometrist Dr. Mark Danzo has nearly 20 years of experience in the vision correction industry, including first-hand experience in the co-management of over 10,000 refractive surgery procedures. He is experienced in the clinical management of LASIK, PRK, Radial Keratotomy and automated LK patients.
He is a vision correction patient himself, having refractive surgery performed on a VISX laser. Dr. Danzo trains ophthalmology and optometric practices around the world on the clinical management and marketing of LASIK and other refractive surgery procedures. He is a regular contributor to various refractive trade publications and a sought-after speaker at international ophthalmic and optometric meetings.
LASIK Surgeon, Dr. Danzo has written two books on marketing and managing a refractive surgery practice. He holds a B.S. in Biology from the State University of New York at Cortland and a Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry.
Donald P. Kaiser, O.D.
Dr. Kaiser graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1980. He practiced in his home state of Wisconsin for 13 years in his own private practice, specializing in contact lens fitting. He moved to Colorado in 1993 and has worked in a variety of clinical settings since that time.
Dr. Donald Kaiser has been involved with laser refractive surgery from its beginning, and has enjoyed the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients as they experience this major change in their life.
He had LASIK surgery in 1997 and continues to see the benefits of that every day. Dr. Kaiser regularly attends continuing education classes to keep abreast of the latest developments in refractive surgery and has been involved in clinical studies for a laser manufacturer to evaluate the results with the newest custom treatment technology.
