Custom LASIK
In Denver, Indianapolis and Portland
If you've ever thought about improving your vision with laser vision correction, there has never a better time than now. Advances in laser technology make LASIK safer, more precise and more accurate than ever before. In the very early years of LASIK, the goal was 20/40 or better (you can drive without glasses at 20/40). Then after a few advances, most people achieved close to 20/20. Now there are some that achieve better than 20/20 and most can see better than they ever did with glasses or contacts.
The New Wave(front)
The most important refinement in laser vision correction is Wavefront LASIK technology is the ability to provide Custom LASIK to patients and help them achieve their personal best sight. Custom LASIK takes into account an individual's unique vision abnormalities and corrects more than just distance or near vision. For example, Custom LASIK can address and eliminate what the ophthalmology field calls Higher Order Aberrations - conditions that can cause poor night vision, for example. So in addition to correcting distance vision, you may now be able to see better at night while driving, although this cannot be guaranteed.
More than a Snapshot
Preparing for Custom LASIK begins at your very first visit during your complimentary comprehensive evaluation. In addition to many other tests, we take wavefront-optimized measurements with a 3-D camera. These measurements are the basis of the treatment and must be as precise as possible. With the Pentacam 3-D camera, all of the irregularities on the surface of your eye are accounted for and taken into account when your surgeon creates your custom LASIK plan.
An Advanced Procedure from Beginning to End
Other technology components that contribute to your Custom LASIK treatment are the laser flap creation with the Ziemer LDV laser and the corneal laser treatment with the WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q excimer laser. Numerous studies show that laser-created flaps are smoother and more precise than flaps created with a microkeratome. The Allegretto is the fastest laser currently approved for LASIK in the U.S. With 400 pulses of light per second, treatment times (and the amount of time under the laser) are shorter, meaning less stress for you. This laser also corrects a larger optical zone than other lasers and allows better night vision and less glare problems after treatment.
