LASIK Vision Correction Demonstration

During the LASIK vision correction surgery, the eye is numbed with eye drops and the lid is gently held open with a special tool to prevent blinking. An instrument called a microkeratome creates a thin flap from the outer layers of the cornea.

The laser is used to reshape the remaining cornea beneath the flap. The patient experiences essentially no discomfort and the reshaping usually takes less than one minute.

The flap is then put back in place and self-adheres within a few minutes. Neither stitches nor bandages are required.
