Am I a good candidate?
Most nearsighted, farsighted, and astigmatic people older than eighteen are potential candidates for LASIK eye surgery. The best candidates are often dissatisfied with their contact lenses or glasses and are motivated to make a change, for either occupational or lifestyle reasons. A consultation is best to determine your individual candidacy.
Is LASIK safe?
Sight-threatening complications from LASIK are extremely uncommon. The excimer laser we use at the 20/20 vision institute is the most advanced laser technology available today and is FDA approved. According to a recent study, the chance of having a vision-threatening complication is less than 1/100 of 1 percent. Our doctors will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
What might I expect from the LASIK procedure?
We ask that you arrive an hour before your scheduled procedure time. You will receive a mild sedative to help you relax during the procedure and probably take a short nap afterwards.
During the procedure, you'll recline in an exam chair with your treated eye held open gently. The surgeon will administer numbing drops, the same ones used in routine eye exams. Once your eye is anesthetized, the doctor uses an automated tool called a microkeratome to create a small flap in the outer tissue of the cornea. Then he folds the flap back out of the way, and uses the excimer laser to reshape the cornea. Finally, the flap is put back in place.
The flap heals quickly and without sutures or bandages. Patients normally experience no bleeding during the procedure because the cornea contains no blood vessels. There is almost no discomfort.
Will I feel any discomfort during or after the procedure?
The overwhelming majority of patients do not report discomfort because the eye is numbed during the procedure. After the procedure, some people experience a minor "scratchy" sensation that can be relieved by drops and usually disappears the same day.
Is LASIK affordable?
At the 20/20 Institute, we make it easy and affordable for people to achieve visual freedom by providing many financing options.
On average, contact lenses and glasses cost their wearers approximately $750 per year on eyewear, lenses and solutions.
If you calculate the savings from not having to purchase glasses, contact lenses or solution for the next 20 or 30 years, it makes LASIK an easy decision.
However, many benefits of the procedure are beyond value.
Consider the value of not having to wear glasses or contact lenses in the following scenarios:
Seeing the alarm clock in the morning without searching for your glasses on your nightstand
Exercising without stopping to push up your glasses or looking for lost contacts
Swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving without buying prescription goggles
Checking on your children or investigating a noise in the middle of the night without fumbling for glasses or lenses
Saving 15 minutes every day that was otherwise spent on care for contact lenses, or 76 full days over the next twenty years
Buying any sunglasses that strike your fancy, instead of the limited selection at your optometrist
Considering all this, isn’t LASIK the ONLY affordable option?
Will astigmatism prevent me from having LASIK?
No. Astigmatism is a refractive vision problem caused by an oblong, rather than spherical cornea. Blurred vision results because light is refracted incorrectly, focusing on two points on the retina rather than one. If you suffer from astigmatism, LASIK may be able to correct your vision, depending on the level of your astigmatism. The excimer laser is capable of reshaping the cornea during the LASIK procedure, allowing light to enter your eye correctly, and giving you sharper, clearer vision. If you would like learn whether your astigmatism can be corrected with LASIK, contact the 20/20 Institute today to schedule a free initial consultation with one of our experienced doctors.
How long does the LASIK procedure take?
The actual procedure is laser-fast, taking only about 60 seconds per eye, depending on the amount of correction needed. The total procedure time for both eyes is approximately 15 minutes.
What can I expect after the procedure?
After your LASIK eye surgery procedure, drops are placed in the treated eye(s) to facilitate the healing process. After your treatment you should go home and rest. Sleep is very helpful to the eyes, ensuring quicker healing following the procedure. For five to seven days, you will use prescription eye drops. For two or three nights, you will sleep in goggles, and you should refrain from rubbing your eyes for two weeks.
How quickly can I return to normal activities?
Most people are able to return to normal activities, including work, the following day. Although it may fluctuate a bit, vision is usually functional within 24 hours after surgery.
Will LASIK give me 20/20 vision?
Achieving 20/20 and better is not only the 20/20 Institute standard, it's our guarantee. We are committed to helping each patient achieve complete visual freedom. Our experienced LASIK eye surgery doctors and staff will help you reach this destination of your LASIK journey.

You should commit two hours for the surgery.
