LASIK Eye Surgery - IntraLase Technology
in Indianapolis, Indiana
The greatest promise of LASIK eye surgery is that the use of computer-controlled lasers can make refinements in the cornea that could never be achieved by human hands. As part of the procedure, Pentacam, a 3-D rotating camera that precisely measures all surfaces of the cornea and CustomVue WaveFront driven technology that utilizes a 3-D image of the entire visual system to precisely control the Star S4-IR Excimer Laser System to provide completely unique and completely accurate vision correction for each and every patient, fulfill that promise.
Until now, however, there has been one point in the process that was still manual and still utilized a blade. At beginning of the LASIK process, the surgeon uses a small, spatulate instrument, called a microkeratome, to create a flap in the cornea. The doctor then folds back the flap on its hinge to allow the Excimer laser to do its work precisely reshaping the cornea to provide the proper vision correction.
Bladeless LASIK with the IntraLase laser substitutes a laser for the microkeratome blade thereby reducing almost all of the risks associated with making the corneal flap. The procedure has been used in nearly 1 million LASIK procedures with not a single report of serious sight-threatening complications.
Furthermore, the Bladeless LASIK procedure with the IntraLase laser improves on the microkeratome LASIK procedure in appreciable ways:
- Comfort—the Bladeless LASIK procedure with the IntraLase laser is reportably more comfortable for the patients.
- Flexibility—the Bladeless LASIK procedure with the IntraLase laser is capable of treating patients with higher refractive errors, thinner corneas, and even moderate-to-high astigmatism.
- Biomechanical superiority—the Bladeless LASIK procedure with the IntraLase laser creates flaps that are structurally superior and uniformly thin, making them preferable to microkeratome-created flaps that taper and can suffer damage in the cutting process.
- Improved Corneal Wound Healing—because Bladeless LASIK with the IntraLase laser flaps are biomechanically superior, Bladeless LASIK LASIK patients heal faster, gaining more of their vision improvement more quickly that microkeratome LASIK patients.
The benefits for you are clear: a more comfortable procedure, a more customized procedure, less likelihood of complications, and quicker results. Bladeless LASIK eye surgery with the IntraLase laser means a whole new generation of LASIK procedures.
