LASIK Eye Surgery Procedure

LASIK or Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis is a procedure which reshapes the cornea to improve vision. It's a type of refractive LASIK eye surgery that it changes the way light is refracted (bent) as travels through the eye.

At 20/20 Institute you are treated as the individual that you are. Your LASIK surgery will be unique, unlike anybody else's, because your eyes are yours alone. We use advanced technology, including the Wavefront system, to measure and record the exact contours of your eyes, creating 3-D digital maps of your eyes. These become the basis of your refractive surgery and the laser uses them as a guide to reshape the corneas.

Am I a Candidate?

Most nearsighted, farsighted, and astigmatic people eighteen or older are potential candidates for LASIK. The best candidates tend to be dissatisfied with their contact lenses or glasses and motivated to make a change, often for occupational or lifestyle reasons. The Procedure

You will be reclining in a chair while anesthetic drops numb the eye(s) to be treated. The eyelids are gently held open with a special instrument to prevent blinking. The surgeon uses an automated tool called a microkeratome to cut a small flap on the surface of the cornea, exposing the tissue below. Then the laser can quickly recontour that corneal tissue according the individual plan created for you by the doctor using the computerized data obtained from the Wavefront system.
When the laser reshaping is finished, your doctor will reposition the flap and it will heal itself with no stitches, acting as a little bandage over the treated area.

You will experience little, if any, discomfort.

Most patients get 90% of the vision correction overnight and can return to work the next day. The remaining (usually 10%) of healing takes approximately 2-3 weeks.
